Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District held its annual public meeting on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. The meeting, held at Sunnyside Community Services, featured a presentation on the organization’s recent accomplishments and upcoming plans, as well as an award presentation for three community leaders.
The following community leaders were selected for their significant contributions to the Sunnyside commercial district in the last year. Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer was honored with a Neighborhood Visionary Award. Queens West District 2 Superintendent Robert Cavanaugh of the NYC Department of Sanitation was honored with a Neighborhood Partnership Award and the local business Maggie Mae’s was honored with a Neighborhood Wow Award.
“We are so grateful for the dedication and commitment these individuals have shown to Sunnyside,” said Rachel Thieme, executive director of Sunnyside Shines. “We are pleased of the great work we are doing together and look forward to doing even more for the district in the coming year.” In her presentation outlining recent accomplishments and upcoming plans, Thieme emphasized the new events coming to the Sunnyside public plazas, a new Shop Sunnyside neighborhood rewards card that will launch this spring and further investments in the district’s streetscape.
Members of the business improvement district also elected members to the organization’s board of directors, which is comprised of property owners, commercial tenants and residents. Local elected officials are also represented on the board.
